Excellent Bottle Cap Collection Photos

Maura Cluthe has a beautifully presented bottle cap collection. These look great and the idea of collecting these make for a nice portable collection of retro styling, graphics and brands.

These remind me a little of stamp collecting where you get to keep a record of mini pieces of art. These bottle caps seem a lot cooler though, somehow.

Yoghurt Spoon Design

Why this design for a yoghurt spoon wasn’t created earlier, I’ve no idea! Its simple and yet so obvious.

Surely manufacturers of cutlery should be creating variations of this soon? Unless its all a conspiracy and they don’t want us to finish off those last scraps of yoghurt left in the corner of the pot.

Chocolate Pieces By Calories

I love this simple idea for chocolate where different sized chunks are marked by how many calories they contain.

Dolphin Inspired Submergible Watercraft

This is a pretty funky looking vehicle called the Innerspace Sea Breacher. It’s inspired by dolphins and looks alot of fun to drive!

Sea Breacher

The current race-ready Seabreacher is powered by a 250hp supercharged Atkins Marine rotary engine, and can achieve speeds of up to 50mph on the surface and a staggering 20mph while fully submerged! Vehicles can dive to a maximum depth of five feet and can jump out of the water as high as ten feet.

Braun Nose Hair Trimmer Poster

I don’t think this concept for advertising the Braun Nose Hair Trimmer is the most original of advert concepts, but nevertheless has a touch of humour.

Brauntrimmer1

Using portrait shots always has some degree of enticement to the viewer. Its human nature to be more drawn to another human than say, just a shot of some hair.

The creators must have had some fun in directing these guys to act a little serious  and a little proud to show off their nasal creations, but with a touch of parody.

Inflatable Mouse

Here’s an idea for an inflatable mouse. It sounds like it is a good idea in principle but of course, for product design, there are several issues in play.

Jellyclick1

I think there’s no doubting its portability. Its light, and flat packs to take up so little space. Very useful for traveling workers lugging their laptops around.

Jellyclick3

However, for such a functional product, a mouse to me has to work extremely well, since its in use day in, day out. It would have to feel right to hold and the tracking has to be responsive and accurate.

Weight is also an issue for some people. I’ve no idea how this inflatable mouse feels, but I suspect an attempt to give it some weight to add tactility will compromise it’s portability. Although this might be negligible. What do you think?

Slipper Dusters

As they say, its the simplest ideas.. And I think the idea of dusters being “worn” whilst walking around the house must have been thought of by dozens of potential designers.

But these guys have made it, and it looks alright!

Slipper-Dusters

You can buy them in lime or pink for under $10 at Solutions.com. Hopefully, these will get you into action in making that killer idea of yours a reality.

iPhone and iPod Touch Wallpapers via Poolga

With the second generation iPhone supposedly due out next month in June, there might be a rush of new customers, me included!

To help customise all our new iPhones, website Poolga.com provides a selection of free wallpapers, lovingly created by designers and illustrators from around the world.

I love the format - at 320 x 480 pixels, the size is nice and compact and perhaps easy to repurpose other graphics for.

Longoland Monster Plushes, Chairs and Rugs

I love these quirky ideas from the world of Longoland.

Longoland is a multidisciplinary funhouse lead by artist/designer Joshua Ben Longo, who created his fantastical visions in reaction to the restrictive world of traditional product design.

Longoland1

I find his visions are both a little disturbing yet appealing touchable as a result of the cuddliness of the materials he uses.

They’re a little like aliens from b-movies which appear to be cute and friendly, but as soon as humans go near them, they reveal their nasty sides! Or maybe like “Critters” from the original 1986 movie of the same name, one of my favourite old school creature features.

It would good if the rug dude kept his mouth closed until you step on him - a great way to treat unwanted guests!

Super Cool Parafernalia Falter 2D Designer Pen

This is the Falter 2D designer, self assembly ball point pen set, which comes as a flat snap apart template.

Parafernalia-Falter-2D-Worl

Designed by A. Ebenbichler for the cult Italian design house, Parafernalia, the Falter 2D comes in the form of a beautifully presented snap apart template which includes a ruler and the instrument needed to implement the bending required - the final, assembled result being not only a distinctly modern pen that is quite unlike any other, but also a matching pen holder.

Putting aside the fact that this is a pen (albeit seemingly quite an uncomfortable one), just for a moment, as an object in its own right few would argue that it’s a piece of design brilliance that’s worthy of any desk top.
