Colour Paint Strips – What can you do with them?

It takes an Artist like Lisa Solomon to make something so obvious and yet so unique out of those colour paint reference strips.

I’ve always found these strips to be quite beautiful in their simplicity and function which justifies the appealing composition of several like-minded colours. The fact that paint companies always seem to humanise and market these colours with names like (god forbid) Magnolia, just allows Lisa to literally connect the dots with embroidered subject matter arising from these names.

Thankfully, she has chosen a range of practical names (such as Goldfish and Sparrow) with which to create these simple, but no less inspiring artworks.

“Lisa is intrigued by the notion of hybridization; the fusing of elements that may at first glance appear to be unrelated. She’s drawn to found objects – altering them conceptually so that their meanings and original uses are re-purposed. She often fuses “wrong” things together: tanks made of bright pink felt, sewing onto paper, hunted animals on rifle targets, or “fighting” cute clouds.”
